A facility showcasing the best design features of its type, Master Cho’s is the result of the owner’s wish to see their dream realized and the designer’s ability to grant it. Th e site presented several challenges, mainly a small lot containing an 80 foot historic maple tree. Instead of viewing the tree as a hindrance, the owners recognized it as a prime example of nature’s artwork and decided to incorporate it as a key feature in the design. Open views with expansive areas of glass provide views of the tree from every angle. Th e building plan consists of two main training spaces, small support rooms and an open central atrium. The reception area features a grand stair case leading to a jogging track on the upper level. Two large ornamental gates and a fence line provide a physical separation of the rear yard from its neighbors as well as a symbolic connection to them.
