Popkin Tavern & Apartments

The Soble family bought the building in 1963 and had operated it as a furniture store. The upper floors were used for furniture showroom and storage. The building sits on the northwest corner of Jefferson & Broad Streets, which yields three sides of windows for an ideal situation for adaptive re-use.

Cornerstone Architects developed a boutique bar and grill theme restaurant with the upper floors converted to apartments.

Tax credits were used and this was an historical project therefore a great deal of city interaction occurred.

This renovation is part of the continued effort in the Monroe area to revitalize downtown Richmond. The apartments are affordably priced for students and young professionals and the restaurant has created great attraction to the area.
